The Munich public transport system, MVV, offers all students attending Munich universities two special student discount travel cards: the Semester ticket and the IsarCard Semester.

The Semester Ticket entitles students to use all forms of transpor­tation within the entire MVV network on week­days be­tween the hours of 6 pm and 6 am, as well as all day at weekends and in holiday periods.   

The IsarCard Semester entitles students to unlimited travel within the entire MVV network at any time.

For many students it is important to find part-time work. The Deutsche Studentenwerk provides support and advice (primarily legal advice) in the area of working whilst studying. It is not easy to find part-time work suitable for students and TUM offers assistance in the website jobs and internships.

Our TUM Global & Alumni Office organizes orientation weeks for international exchange students at the start of each term.  The aim is to help international students at the beginning of their studies in Munich.  Take a look at this website:

TUM has three major campuses: Munich, Garching and Freising/Weihenstephan. Most lectures and courses offered by the department of educational sciences take place in Marsstraße 20-22 (inner city), although some may be held at Arcisstraße 21 (also inner city).

The Departments of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Sciences are located in Garching and the Departments of Biology and Chemistry are located in Freising/Weihenstephan.

TUM School of Education Student Association (http://www.lehrertum.de/) provides peer advisory services for students and also organizes welcome events and gatherings for "Freshers", such as weekends at a local cabin, parties.

During the semester, Student Association meetings take place weekly at 5.30 pm in Marsstraße 20, Room 130, on the first floor.

The Student Union represents and serves the interests of fellow students by its involvement in university politics, its participation on the university council, its membership of the committee for student affairs etc. 

Both the city of Munich and TUM offer extensive opportunities for leisure activity.  Whether you are interested in sports, music and arts, languages, films  or festivals, there are many different ways to spend your free time and meet interesting people.

Exchange students are those students who have been selected by their home university to study at TUM for a maximum of three semesters within the scope of an exchange program such as Erasmus+ or TUMexchange, or via a bilateral university agreement.

TUM Global & Alumni Office can provide you with all the information necessary to make an application.

You should send us your learning agreement as early as possible. Tell us which courses you intend to take and explain the work you have completed in the relevant subjects at your home university. This information will prevent possible mismatching or disappointment (e.g. the courses you intend to take are already full, not of an appropriate level, etc.).

Please note that students from a university with which TUM School of Social Sciences / deptartment educational sciences has an agreement will be given priority.

If you think your German might not be of a sufficient standard to take courses at TUM, please refer to our language centre website, Sprachenzentrum.

The Sprachenzentrum offers a wide range of courses in German (and also in other languages).

Please note that all our courses are taught in German.  There is, however, one exception: the Master's Program Research on Teaching and Learning is in English.
