ProKoStat: Teachers’ professional competence in statistics

Project description

The subject area of statistics is gaining increasing recognition in society and thus also in school education. In schools, teachers play a key role as multipliers in the transfer of knowledge and in teaching basic statistical literacy. However, teachers themselves often have problems when teaching statistics. Therefore, the question arises: do mathematics teachers have the competence to teach statistics?

The project ProKoStat analyses the so far little studied in-service teachers of statistics, in particular their affective characteristics (e.g. anxiety and joy) regarding teaching statistics and their relation to statistical content knowledge. The overall goal of the project is to contribute to basic research and to derive insights for the further development of teacher training. ProKoStat is the result of a cooperation project between the Department of Educational Sciences of the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology and the Ministry of Education and universities of the city of Medellín in Colombia.
