Project description

Teaching and learning with the help of computers has been an important topic for many years. The question of how computers can support teaching and learning processes is at the forefront. It is not so much a matter of using a new medium, but rather of finding new ways with this medium that specifically address the medium's genuine possibilities and advantages for learning processes.

In recent times, in addition to the how, the question of the wherewithal of working has increasingly arisen. Smartphones are widely available, especially for children and young people, and the principles of their usability are very familiar to this age group. The same applies to tablet PCs, which can be used for much more than playing games or listening to music.

Based on current pedagogical-didactical principles, the project will develop and evaluate an interactive tablet-based teaching book on the topic of "Fractions". On the one hand, this e-book should include all the functions of a classic textbook, i.e. it should be suitable for reading up on facts, offer explanations and contain exercises. In addition, it should specifically include possibilities for interactive use of the tablet PC. Abstract concepts should be made as concrete as possible and made accessible in a haptic, literally "tangible" way. This also takes into account the fact that textbooks now not only impart knowledge, but also provide instructions for learning in a social context, i.e. involving teachers as well as fellow students in work instructions.

The e-book can be obtained free of charge from the Apple iBookstore.
