Teacher Competencies

The competence of teachers depends on various factors. On the one hand, their cognitive characteristics play a role, on the other hand, so-called motivational-affective characteristics such as interest, motivation, joy and self-concept contribute to the competence of teachers.

In these secondary analyses, the focus is on the interplay of competence aspects and the question of the extent to which the characteristics mentioned can have a positive effect in the classroom, such as through good teaching quality and well-being. Therefore, we look at teachers in the course of their training up to their entry into the profession. We also investigate whether social support from peers and colleagues can contribute to the competence development of prospective teachers.

By looking at the different phases of teacher education – university teacher education, pre-service teacher training, entry into the profession and beyond – we aim is to gain insights that can contribute significantly to improving teacher education.
