Dr. Yasmeen Abdrabou

Career Development

I am a postdoctoral researcher at TUM Chair of Human-Centered Technologies for Learning at the School of Social Sciences and Technology hired on the VIVA project. I work on human-computer interaction, eye tracking. and security.

Previously, I was a Senior Research Associate at Lancaster University, working on the GEMINI ERC project from April 2023 to October 2024. My research focused on Gaze, Eye, and Body Interaction in HCI and VR/AR. I earned my PhD in 2023 from Universität der Bundeswehr München at the CODE research lab, supervised by Prof. Dr. Florian Alt and Dr. Mohamed Khamis (University of Glasgow). My dissertation explored enhancing security mechanisms using eye gaze behavior and was funded by the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes.

During my PhD, I conducted a research stay funded by the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) with the SIRIUS team at the University of Glasgow (March–August 2022), focusing on the privacy of eye-tracking data. Additionally, I undertook an industrial internship at Tobii AB Labs as a part-timer (March 2021–March 2022) with Dr. Ralf Bidert, where we developed solutions for the Ocumen toolkit.

Research Interests

My research interests include Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), eye tracking, and usable security, with a particular focus on user behavior. I aim to develop privacy-driven solutions for eye tracking while leveraging gaze behavior to enhance security and user protection. Additionally, I have experience working with various behavioral sensing tools, as well as designing novel security and authentication mechanisms.
