Developmental mechanisms and processes
Cross-cultural differences, Physiological measures, Computational, Longitudinal, Individual differences

This area delves into the underlying developmental mechanisms and processes that support active learning in children. We investigate the influence of cultural backgrounds on information-seeking strategies (cross-cultural differences). We may utilize physiological measures or computational modeling approaches to shed light on the biological and cognitive processes involved in active learning. Longitudinal studies allow us to track the development of these skills over time, while research on individual differences helps us identify variations in children's active learning abilities.
In our research project Trivia, we aim to understand how children actively explore information across various topics within a self-directed learning environment. Children participate in a three-day online learning workshop where each day they delve into a new, novel topic by exploring answers to questions of their choice. This design allows us to examine how children handle new information, whether they exhibit specific exploration patterns, and how these patterns are influenced by developmental mechanisms as well as socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
