A new open-access article by our team members Annabel Wolf, Dr. Christian Hartmann, Dr. Christian Kosel, and Prof. Dr. Maria Bannert has been published in the peer-reviewed German journal Journal für LehrerInnenbildung. The paper explores how eye-tracking data can support teachers in diagnosing learning processes and planning instruction in VR learning environments. In VR settings, teachers have limited opportunities to observe learners’ actions and attentional processes directly, as these occur within the virtual environment and are often invisible from the outside. In an exploratory study, teachers used a VR dashboard that visualized learners’ eye-movement data to gain insights into learning behavior and inform instructional planning. The study investigates how such data can be interpreted and applied for educational decision-making. Recommendations for dashboards that effectively support teachers in using eye-tracking data for learning diagnostics and instruction in VR environments were derived from the findings.
