Open Research Laboratory

Within the context of science communication the Open Research Laboratory addresses the question of how methods of natural science and the way of scientific thinking can be communicated to the general public. We go beyond imparting just scientific results by developing and action methods to provide an understanding of processes of scientific research and thus to enhance the public understanding of research.

The concept of our Open Research Laboratory brings the day-to-day life of researchers right into the museum. The research topics are related to surface physics and supramolecular chemistry. Visitors can enjoy the rare opportunity to discuss with scientists and pose questions: how does one go about obtaining new scientific insights? What is being researched at the moment? What is the average day in the life of a scientist like? Scientists can recount from their own experience why it is that they enjoy research and how one becomes a scientist, including what one has to study in order to get there.
