TUM interne Workshops: Inclusion in Teacher Education

The educational landscape continues to change. The presence of students with special needs in regular education classrooms means that every teacher needs to be prepared to be effective practitioners for all of her or his students. What is the role of teacher education programs in preparing teachers for the diversity they will encounter in their teaching practice? What does teacher education for inclusion look like in these programs? How does research on effective teacher education for inclusion inform teacher education programs? And what role do digital technologies play in teacher education for inclusion?

To discuss these questions, the project Teach@TUM invites you to join two international and interdisciplinary workshops adressing inclusive education. The workshops are presented by the researchers Prof. Jacqueline Specht from the Western University in London, Canada and Prof. Donna McGhie Richmond from the University of Victoria, Canada.

 

Workshop 1: Effective Schools

When: Tuesday, 09.10.2018, 9am-12pm

Where: Marsstraße 20-22, Room 140

Focus: Empirical research

This workshop focusses on effective inclusive schools research and implications for teacher education. Research plays a significant role in identifying the factors, approaches, instructional models, and tools that interact and contribute to effective instruction.

  • Why are effective inclusive schools important?
  • What are the characteristics of effective inclusive schools?
  • What is the role of leadership in inclusive schools?
  • How do we support teachers in their inclusive practice?

 

Workshop 2: Teacher Education for Inclusion

When: Wednesday, 10.10.2018, 9am-12pm

Where: Marsstraße 20-22, Room 140

Focus: Practical application

This workshop focusses on teacher education programs that support inclusive instructional practices in Canada and in Germany.

  • What is the role of teacher education programs in preparing teachers for the diversity they will encounter in their teaching practice?
  • How does research on effective teacher education for inclusion inform teacher education programs?
  • What role do digital technologies play in teacher education for inclusion?
